For my project, I chose the enduring issue of reproductive rights because especially right now, a woman’s right to a safe abortion is in critical danger. As a woman myself, I believe that any woman should be able to choose whether or not they want an abortion, hence the lable ‘pro choice’. Many people, though, believe that abortion should be outlawed because abortion is a ‘horrible thing’ or ‘murder,’ and these people are labled as ‘pro lifers’. Pro lifers think that outlawing abortion is going to prevent abortion from happening as a whole, which is incredibly untrue. Before Roe v. Wade was affirmed in 1973, women would perform their own abortions, which was insanely unsafe. 1 and 6 pregnancy related deaths was a caused by an unsafe abortion before abortion was safe and legal. If abortion is outlawed, women in America would go back to performing unsafe abortions, which is proven to be unsafe. The bottom line is that abortion is a fundamental right as a woman, and it should stay legal and safe permanently.
